I have mentioned the fact that there are 6 main types of tea, but i now want to look at them in a bit more depth. to recap, the six main types of tea are Black, White, Green, Oolong, Yellow and Pu'er tea. There is over 3,000 variations of these types altogether. As all tea is made from the same plant, the difference comes from the level of oxidation.

White tea is a pale yellow colour, it has a similar consistency to green tea. It is also sometimes known as China White and Fujian White. White tea is said to be an unoxidized tea as the processing is minimal and enzymes in the tea leaves are not killed. They do in fact experience slight oxidisation naturally when they are sitting out, which is more than green tea experiences.

Green tea is a green colour. It is very popular due to all its health benefits including lowering your cholesterol, fighting cancer, fighting against plaque and killing mouth bacteria and many more. Green tea is also known as an unoxidized tea, sometimes it has a very slight hint of oxidation but not always.
Oolong tea is a mix between green tea and black tea. It is also known for benefiting health by lowering cholesterol levels and reducing risk of heart disease. It is a lighter colour than black tea and is known as semi-oxidized, but the level of oxidation can vary. It is hard to tell the level of oxidation in oolong tea from the colour as roasting, which is part of the process of oolong tea, can darken the colour like oxidation does.
Yellow tea is a yellow colour and has a naturally sweet taste. It is more rare and expensive than the other tea types. It is known to help weight loss, remove harmful toxins from the body and lower the risk of strokes. Yellow has a similar processing to green tea but with an extra process which allowed the leaves to sit out while damp. This causes partial oxidation to the tea.
Black tea is dark brown in colour. It is a fully oxidized tea which gives it a strong flavour.
Pu'er tea is a very dark colour because it experiences a different type of oxidation. Pu'er tea is split into two groups , one of the groups being technically known as a green tea. The other type has a completely different process.
